Since reinstalling Font Explorer a few weeks ago, all the body texts of the Wall Street Journal and New York Times and MSN news, etc., are in italic.

On the IE typeface list, there is no Times Roman, and Times New Roman is available. I do not know which font I should be using.

This affects Outlook Express also.

Some of the other texts, such as headings, is only in a sans-serif face.

Please would someone tell me how to get back where I started. I must have clicked a wrong button somewhere.

Difficult to help you when you don't know how did you lost your fonts. You probably uninstalled or deleted them, because installation and uninstallation of Font Xplorer does not change your fonts any way.

Try repairing your Internet Explorer installation.
